Find lost friends

New web service Long Time Lost aims to reconnect you with MIA friends by leveraging search engines–but not in the usual way.

Here’s how it works: You enter a few details about the person, including their name and when/where you last saw them. Long Time Lost adds this “search” to Google and other engines, the idea being that the next time the person performs a vanity search (i.e., looking up one’s own name), he or she will encounter your LTL search and be able to reconnect with you.

The service is free and easy to use, though obviously it pivots on whether your missing friend ever does vanity searches. Still, it’s worth a try. If you’re out there, Kevin Killip, get searchin’ for yourself! (Or, um, just e-mail me here.) — Rick Broida
